Description

Our Lowland Leader Award Assessment Preparation course will get you ready for your upcoming test. Time will be spent going over the skills required to lead walking groups in lowland countryside, woodland and coastal areas.

The course will examine your route finding skills, your understanding of hazard management, your leadership techniques and choice of equipment. We can look at the resources you use and evaluate the impact the weather may have on your walks. You will get a chance to fine tune your presentation skills. You can show us how to manage your group. As this course is client focused, please inform us of any aspect of the training that you wish to cover. This course is suitable for anyone with an upcoming assessment.

We also run Lowland Leader Training and Assessment courses nationwide.

These courses are approved by Mountaineering Ireland. Our Lowland Leader Award Assessment Preparation course is delivered by an approved Lowland Leader Award assessor and International Mountain Leader.

Importantly before you attend an assessment, ensure that you complete the logbook requirements.
Completed all aspects of Lowland Leader Award Training. And especially provide evidence in your logbook.
Shown evidence of a minimum of twenty walks in Lowland Leader terrain. A minimum of five walks should show evidence of progressive leadership. Also ensure you read and understood all aspects of the MTBI Lowland Leader Award syllabus. Another key point to be aware of is to read MI’s environmental policy. Furthermore please read the Good Practice Guide and the Children’s policy. Because these are the subjects that can come up on your assessment.

What to bring

Waterproof Jacket and trousers, hill walking boots/shoes, walking trousers/tracksuit bottoms/leggings (avoid cotton) base layer- top/tee shirt/fleece, take a spare if you feel the cold, mid layer- fleece, hat and gloves and backpack. Full details on booking.

All our instructors are qualified in remote emergency care and wilderness first aid, you are in safe hands.
