A week of hiking
Welcome to the Chamonix Valley, the home of Alpinism and Alpine hiking. Experience the pinnacle of European hiking as you trek the Alps. Some days will really challenge you, with stunning views, you will never forget, as your reward. Awesome views of Mont Blanc and the Alpine Ranges capture the imagination. Challenge yourself to conquer a 3,000mt / 10,000ft mountain, hike up to the alpine Lac Blanc, traverse the Grand Balcon, there are many fantastic options for you every day on this fantastic holiday. Each morning your guide, a qualified International Mountain Leader, will meet you for your days hiking. The activities and hiking options will be discussed upon your arrival and will be catered to suit your groups requirements.
Before each expedition we organise a free pre-alpine hiking day, on which we discuss all the finer details and can suggest a training plan if required. These hiking trips are a great way to experience the Alps and are designed to suit you and your group.
Our classic hiking routes
The tour du Mont Blanc, The GR5, The Haute Route all pass through the Chamonix Valley, not by accident but because it's one of the most beautiful places in Europe. Our day hikes will take you on some of the most famous hikes in the area. We will hike a selection of day hikes from the following: Lac Blanc, The Grand Balcons, the Vallorcine Valley, the Col de Balme, Le Brevent, Mont Buet, Aiguillette d'Argentiere, have dinner in a mountain hut, and many many more. The benefit of being based in the Valley come into their own with shops, restaurants, bars, and the vibrancy that comes with such a classic town. There is a range of accommodation available in the Chamonix Valley, from bed and breakfast, self catering, hostels and camping. As part of our services we can book this to suit your requirements. Prices start at €700.00 per person sharing. Chamonix Valley and Refuge accommodation starts at €40.00 per person per night.
Geneva is the best airport for the Chamonix valley. Aer Lingus fly to Geneva daily. From the airport the best option is a pre booked shuttle bus from one of the following local transport providers: Alpy Bus, Chamonix Express or Mountain Drop-offs. By Rail the TGV to Saint-Gervais-Le Fayet then the Mont Blanc Express service to Les Houches. See www.voyages-sncf.com. Once in Geneva the journey should take about 2 hours to get to our accommodation.
Equipment & Grades
The equipment required is not much more than your usual hiking kit with good boots. Our walking grades are as follows: Grade 1 are tough, spending over 8 hours on trail with over 1200 height gain, the terrain is rough. Grade 2 are long alpine hikes, about 7 hours, with height gain up to 1000m the terrain can be rough at times. Grade 3 are more relaxed between 4 and 6 hours out with height gain up to 500m. Whether you fancy the tough, intermediate or relaxed you will be sure to enjoy all France outdoors has to offer. Please see our sample routes for guidance..
Free Training Hikes
We want to ensure that you get the most from your hiking holiday in Chamonix. To help this we arrange free training and information hikes, nationwide, to everyone booked on our trips. These hikes will start with an indoor information session followed with a guided hike. We will give you advice on equipment and clothing and if necessary suggest some hikes to prepare you for your upcoming adventure.
Day one, arrive the Chamonix Valley and get settled into your accommodation. Your International Mountain Leader will meet you and discuss the weeks hiking.
Day two, hike to Lac Blanc via one of the fantastic classic routes. Enjoy a coffee or lunch at the Lac Blanc Refuge (2352m) then continue on the Grand Balcon and return to the Valley.
Day three, hike to the Col de Balm where we look down at the start of the Rhone Valley. We journey into Switzerland and hike with fabulous alpine views. We return to France and descend towards Le Tour.
Day four, hike Mont Buet at over 10,000ft It’s a big day traveling up this classic route. We start from the village of le Buet, and follow the rugged valley of Bérard to Table du Chantre
Day five, Montenvers our route starts from the first Gare on the Aiguille Lift. We depart Chalet du Plan and pick up the Grand Balcon Nord and continue towards Montenvers
Day six, Montagne de la Cote, we follow a ridge line heading towards the Chalet des Pyramides, passing huge boulders. We continue to Mont Corbeau, then on to Gite a Balmat, maybe get up and touch the ice!
Day seven, your last day on the Alps, Col de Voza departing from Les Houches we take the Bellevue cable car to la Chalette, from there we start this circuit of Mont Vorassay.
Day eight, return home to share your experiences with family and friends.
